| Notes | The Chad tourist or business visa is typically valid for 30 days from the date of issue, for a stay not to exceed 30 days. The visa must be used within the 30 day validity or it becomes void. You may stay up to a maximum of 30 days once you enter. Three and six month multiple entry visas are also available.
An International Certificate of Vaccination for Yellow Fever is not required to be presented when applying for the visa but must be presented upon arrival. Canadian residents may apply for a visa as the Embassy in Washington, D.C. represents North America. |

American citizens should defer all travel to Chad due to the unstable security situation throughout the country. Armed rebel groups resumed activity in eastern Chad in mid-June and present real dangers. The Chadian government is unable to guarantee the safety of visitors in most parts of the country. During the period June 16-18, the Embassy relocated some Embassy staff and family members to Cameroon as a precaution. Family members of Embassy personnel under the age of 21 are not authorized to reside in Chad. Commercial flights continue to operate from N'Djamena International Airport, but flights are subject to change when rebel activity intensifies. The security situation in general remains fluid and potentially dangerous.02/21/2008

This Travel Warning updates U.S. citizens about serious safety and security concerns in Chad. On February 2, 2008, the Department of State ordered the departure of all family members of American employees and non-emergency American employees at the U.S. Embassy in N'Djamena. The U.S. Embassy in N'Djamena has transferred operations from a temporary site back to the Chancery as of February 13, 2008.
