Please note: As of October 20th, 2008 the Embassy in Ottawa has said that tourist visas will be and have been issued with approval from Tripoli. However, we have been advised by several tour operators on the ground in Libya that aproval has been unofficially suspended for US passport holders- there is no official word. If you wish to apply for a tourist visa please make sure you contact your tour operator for a letter of approval issued from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Tripoli. It is not adviseable to apply without this letter. 

Tourist Visas:
In order to apply for a visa to visit Libya, visa applicants must be part of an organized tour group recognized by the Libyan government. Applicants must obtain an invitation letter from a local travel agency in Libya- normally your tour group would arrange for this letter on your behalf. In addition, an approval letter must be transmitted by the Libyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Libya, to the Embassy of Libya in Ottawa Canada where visa application for US citizens are currently being processed, in order for your visa to be considered- this is also normally arranged by the tour operator. Once all of the documentation has been received by the Libyan Embassy, it will take approximately two weeks to process your application. Please note the service fee charged for this visa includes the shipment of your documents by us to and from the Libyan Embassy in Ottawa Canada via FedEx. You should allow a minimum of one month for the processing of the visa, most of which is needed to locate the approval sent by the Libyan MFA to the Embassy in Ottawa.

The validity of the visa is 3 months from the issue date. Duration of stay is typically 30 days.
